It has allowed us to keep riding, training and showing even in the winter. On some mild days these past weeks, we have even been riding and occasionally taking lessons outside!

Congratulations to the VEC Middle School team for its Championship at the AVSS IEA show earlier this month. With this win, the team has qualified for Regional Finals in March. The team also had a fourth place finish among very stiff competition at Mystic Valley Hunt Club on Sunday, January 22. Congratulations to the team.

Great show at Oak Meadow yesterday (January 28). Grace and Levi were Champion Childrens' Hunter Horse, Cali and Ernie were Champions in Childrens' Equitation, Melissa and Max were Reserve Champions in Pre-Childrens' Hunter. Markie and Toast had great training rides and Markie and Heavon had some beautiful flat classes! Nice showing Valkyrie! Today the High School IEA riders are showing at Mt. Holyoke. Good luck!

They include Potomac Fever, East/West Encephalitis, Flu/Rhino, West Nile Virus, Tetanus, Rabies and Strep, as well as the semi-annual paste wormer for those horses on Strongid. If you would like additional services or a different arrangement for your horse, please talk to Amanda.
We expect Dr. O'Leary in the morning. The horses to be vaccinated will not be available for riding or turnout until he finishes with them.  
There will be no lessons that day; please talk with your instructor about
re-scheduling. Owners / leasers may wish to give their horses a rest day or just a light workout, in case of soreness from the vaccinations.
If you use a veterinarian other than Salmon Brook, please arrange to have the spring vaccinations completed no later than mid-May.  Please tell us when your vet is due.

as the semi-annual paste wormer for those horses on Strongid.
If you would like additional services or a different arrangement for your
horse, please talk to Amanda.

We expect Dr. O'Leary in the morning. The horses to be vaccinated will not
be available for riding or turnout until he finishes with them. Owners may
wish to schedule the day as a "rest" day, in case their horse is sore from
the vaccinations.

If you use a veterinarian other than Salmon Brook, you will need to arrange
to have your horse's spring vaccinations completed no later than mid-May.
Please tell Amanda or Michael when your vet is due.

Yesterday's Wild Aire show was a lot of fun for all the Valkyrie Competitors. With no less than eight horses/ten riders participating, Valkyrie surely left an impression! Everyone, including the numerous Valkyrie fans and family, enjoyed the gorgeous summer weather and friendly atmosphere that is always part of the Wild Aire competitions.

There were too many ribbons and good performances to write about everything, but some highlights: Jodi and Cyrus had a wonderful first show, with Cyrus and Jodi both flatting out like old pros. Charlie was a very good boy earning ribbons with both Heavon and Janet aboard. Andrew was also at his first show and won a championship equitation class and a walk/trot poles class with Danny. Way to go Andrew! Ally was champion in the short-long stirrup division and Ashley won the reserve. Cali and CJ took home a good share of the ribbons as well. Jessica B and CJ also put in some good rounds in the higher division. Grace had some exciting moments with Reilly, and Erica and Oliver are prepped for next week's Folly Classic.

Marty and her horse Bremie competed in the Adult Modifieds at their first show together and had a blast. Solid performances over fences and on the flat earned them their first ribbons including a fourth in a competitive equitation on the flat! Way to go Marty. LeAnne and Hank paired up for their first show together and took home three firsts, including an Equitation over fences, CHSA Medal and Modified Hunter flat! Of course they won other ribbons too. Great first show guys. Marlene and Jasmine participated in their fourth show in as many weeks, and Jasmine is back in her hunter chill. The pair earned placings in both the Modified Eq over fences, CHSA Medal and Modified Hunter over fences. Grace and Reilly toughed out a very long wait before competing in the Prechildren's over fences classes. Reilly behaved wonderfullly, congratulations Grace for a good show.

Two short stirrup pairs under the guidance of Bonnie also had a great show. Congratulations Melissa and Louie for their first place Equitation Flat and overall Reserve Champion in the Short Stirrup Eq! A great day. Ally and Serene came up with the Blue (Again) in the Short Stirrup Hunter Flat, and had very, very nice over fences rounds. You go girls!

to all the Valkyrie horses and riders for their performances at last weekend's 1st Governor's Horse Guard show in Avon. Ten pairs of equestrians and mounts braved the wet grounds in what turned out to be a beautiful day. The new sand ring at the show withstood the previous night's (and week's) rainy weather with the help of an army of workers who spent the early hours of the morning clearing, sweeping, and draining the ring until it was in very good shape. A big BRAVO to both Pat and Rosemary for participating in their very first show and performing very nicely indeed. Renee with Lil in the Modified Adults at her first show of the year and all six of the short-stirrup kids did amazingly well, congratulations. Of course all participants really enjoyed the support and cheering of the Valkyrie friends and family who rallied around every performance, thank you.
