VALKYRIE IS A PREMIER TRAINING AND SHOWING COMMUNITY FOR SERIOUS HORSE ENTHUSIASTS. NOT ALL EQUESTRIANS SHARE THE SAME GOALS, BUT AT VALKYRIE, ALL WISH TO CONTINUE TO GROW AND LEARN. THOSE JUST IN THE BEGINNING STAGES OF THEIR JOURNEY, ALONG WITH THOSE SEEKING A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE ARE GIVEN THE HIGHEST LEVEL OF SUPPORT FROM A DEDICATED AND WELL-EDUCATED TEAM OF PROFESSIONALS.

MEET OUR
STAFF
Carolyn Mainardi
Carolyn founded Valkyrie Equestrian Center on August 1, 1999, with the vision of creating a premier training and lesson facility. Before establishing Valkyrie, Carolyn attended Stoneleigh Burnham School, where she competed on their IEA team in the early 1990s. She then went on to Goucher College, where she rode for their IHSA team and also competed on the International Intercollegiate Equestrian Team.
After taking a brief break from the equestrian world, Carolyn moved to New York City to pursue a Master's in Education from NYU. It was during this time that she discovered Claremont Riding Academy, a historic stable on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, which reignited her passion for riding, teaching, and managing horses. Since opening Valkyrie, Carolyn has helped produce many successful riders who have earned accolades in both local and national competitions. Her dedication to horsemanship and education continues to shape Valkyrie as a leading center for equestrian excellence.
Christopher Peregrin
Christopher was an integral part of Valkyrie in its early years, partnering with Carolyn to establish the business from 1999 to 2003. After that, he returned to his hometown of New York City to explore new professional opportunities. Over the years, Christopher built a successful career in photography production and advertising, working with renowned names such as Annie Leibovitz Studio, Ralph Lauren, Harper’s Bazaar, and Magnum Photos.
In 2020, Christopher rejoined Valkyrie, bringing his wealth of experience back to the equestrian world. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in American History from Columbia University, where he was also an active member of the IHSA team. Notably, Christopher earned the Reserve Champion title in individual open fences at the IHSA Nationals, securing the best – and only! – ribbon for the Lions at the national competition.
Christopher’s diverse background in both the equestrian and creative industries enriches the Valkyrie team, contributing to the continued growth and success of the center.
Brittany Haungs
Brittany is a dedicated equestrian who joined the Valkyrie team in January 2024. She is a graduate of Saint Mary’s College, where she served as both the captain and Co- President of the University of Notre Dame IHSA team. During her time in Indiana, Brittany also worked as an instructor and barn manager while completing her studies.
After relocating to Connecticut to further her career in the equine industry, Brittany quickly became known for her passion for teaching young riders. She is committed to helping each student reach their full potential, while fostering strong, positive relationships with both horses and riders. Her dedication to developing skill and confidence in her students makes her an invaluable member of the Valkyrie team.
Andres Franco
Andres Franco is a highly skilled professional groom with over 15 years of experience in the equestrian industry. Throughout his career, he has worked closely with elite athletes, collaborating with the show jumping teams of Canada and Ireland. He has also served as a professional groom in the dressage discipline, offering support to Olympic equestrian teams from Germany, Japan, and Colombia.
With extensive experience working at prestigious farms and as a freelance groom at both show jumping and dressage events, Andres has built a reputation for his dedication to excellence and his passion for supporting top-tier athletes.
